I think the site is excellent. Does anyone know how I can get a copy of the painting on the LBH brochure cover, "HERE FELL CUSTER]" by ERIC VON SCHMIDT? DOUG MCCABE

I would like to congratulate you all on a superb site, it's clearly obvious that the team put a lot of hard work into a subject they care about, well done. I am creating a Little Bighorn website myself at the moment, it's hard work but I am enjoying it. I am a member of the Custer Association Of Great Britain, have you heard of us? Check out the website, it's not bad. Keep up the good work. Regards Barry Lane, Guildford, England.

I just found this site today. Thank you very much. One question, I visited the batlefield about 6 or 8 years ago and in the musuem bookstore was picture of the battlefield taken just before a storm. The sky was quite black and the headstones a stark white. Anyone know where I can obtain that picture? Thank you very much.Jamesjimrfarmer@aol.com

James--thank you for the kind comments regarding our website. Regarding the picture you're looking for of Last Stand Hill, I called the battlefield bookstore and they no longer sell that print. I checked with the Western National Park Association and they don't carry it either. However, they carry a poster that I love and have hanging on my wall with a light brown/blue double mat and it's beautiful. To check it out, from our homepage click on the green button, "Links to Related Topics." Then click on "Western National Parks Association" and that will take you to their homepage. From their page select "Store Selections" and then do a search for Little Bighorn. Click on "Posters" and the picture is code L7057. Hope you like it. Bob

I think the site is great.I only wish the museum had the photograph or tintype of the great Crazy Horse, which now it belongs and it is going to be soon on display at the custer battlefield museum at garryowen just a few miles south of the LBH battle field. Congratulation for the great work and accomplishements to all. Regards, Pasquale

I'm just beginning to research a photo album containing numerous Cabinet cards & tintypes of members of the 7th Calvery, circa 1870's. The album has been with my family since then & is unknown otherwise. My interest is to provide the images to various groups towards supplementing current historical / visual documents. I would like to have any contact info that you may provide towards this endeavor. Thanks! Stephen C. Lowe lotusart@wlink.com.np

I just returned this evening from the Little Bighorn Battlefield. It was great to find these new comments in the guest book. I just wanted to give a quick note of how things were up there. The weather was cool and warm; a lot of rain and the landscape was incredibly green. Our symposium on June 23 was a great success with an impressive line-up of speakers (we will have more information regarding that in the next couple of months). Visitation seemed low for the few days I was up there. Many of us volunteered along the Deep Ravine and Keogh Trails interpreting the battle for visitors. Keep the comments coming on the guest book. Thanks, Bob Reece

I have studied the battle for several years and each time I read something new I think I have it all. Little did I know that when I went to the field this June 25, 2002 that I would meet a bunch of great people known as "Friends of the Little Big Horn Battlefield" I was able to sit down with Pam Schonecker and some of the other great people and just talk, Only to come away from this meeting with new friends feeling I have so much more to learn. I will soon be joining the organization so I can also share with others a subject of great interest. Wayne R. Maushart

Hi Wayne--I was happy to hear your comments, dated June 30, about discovering the Friends. No better place to learn about us than on the battlefield itself. We're looking forward to your membership. I'll be working on the next newsletter which will be jammed full of info about our symposium of June 23 and our successful grant of $30K that will be the first step in possible registration of ALL the battle sites of the Sioux War of 1876 with the National Historic Landmark designation. The Friends hub and base is Little Bighorn, but we are doing much more, too. It's because of our members support and an incredibly strong board of directors that we are accomplishing these ventures. Thanks again Wayne. Bob Reece

Bob, the guest book was a great idea! As a fairly new member I want to encourage others to join. I share Wayne Maushart's excitement (June 30 comment) about the organization, it's purpose and the knowledgeable, interesting people that give it such vitality. The symposiums have been outstanding, but it's worth the trip just to talk with others who share an interest in the battle and that period of our western history. I really enjoyed interpreting on the Deep Ravine and Reno-Benteen trails. See you next June on Last Stand Hill. Mike Semenock, WA.

I have just returned from visiting the Little Big Horn Battlefield and was both moved and impressed with being on such an historic site, The Park Guide did a fantastic description of the goings on there many yearsd ago, almost had me looking over my shoulder to see if any stray Indians were Poising for an attack. Enjoyed my visit to this historic battlefield immensely and do intend to becoming a member of Friends of the Little Bighorn Battlefield. Keep up the good historic work. This is probably the best web site I've found on the Little Bighorn. Your photos following the battles of the Little Bighorn and the Big Hole are outstanding. I've been a member of other Custer organizations, and they're good, but the Friends is by far the absolute best because of your continual hard work and dedication in assisting the battlefield with important projects. I came to LBH this summer and I was really surprised and really glad to see this website I never visited ! I am a deep admirer of General Custer and I came to LBH to put a flag in his honor. Inspite of his mistake as a man, George A. Custer should endure in history as an incredible soldier. After one century of tarnishing his name, the American people must give full justice to the real Custer : a real American Civil War Hero and a controversial indian fighter who was never the butcher he is depicting today. Congratulations for all the Friends of Little Big Horn - Custer`s last stand should endure by the preservation of the battlefield. David Cornut, Switzerland

Hi David: I'm impressed that you came all the way to Montana from Switzerland to see the LBH. It must have been a great feeling to finally stand on Last Stand Hill after such a long trip. Custer was a great Civil War hero and served his country well. We honor his name as well as all the other men who fought on both sides at the LBH. BTW--I'm happy you enjoyed the Friends' web site. Hope you get back to visit us someday soon. Thanks, Bob Reece

Newcomers: Go to the Home Page and follow the battle in photos. If you've ever wondered what Custer's Last Stand was all about, you'll see it here. Custer bought the farm in a couple of hours, but there were another two days of the battle that get almost no treatment in the history books. There is heroism and bravery that is documented by survivors that will blow you away. besides the 210 men that died with Custer, there were others three miles away that survived. It is all fascinating. See how it happened in the photos, then read a few books and it all comes to life. PS, Bob , the photo guide of the battle is a huge contribution to the website. I'll be printing it and bringing it to the battlefield next June. Mike Semenock Snohomish, WA

This is a great website. I was fortunate enough to visit the park in July and was very moved by the experience. I'm not a Custer fan (I feel he was the luckiest soldier in the Civil War and his luck ran out on June 25, 1876), but standing on Last Stand Hill, I have to admit I almost felt sorry for him. Almost. I was just in Montana this past week deer hunting and it is the first time that I have been out there and NOT gone to the Battlefield. I almost felt guilty not going. I have been there four times before and felt that I should be there each time I had the opportunity. I'm from Wisconsin so it is a long trip for me. There is always a certain feeling that I have gotten on each visit. Since I was a child I was always interested in what happened there. I had some friends who went this time and they came back and told me how interesting it was. One of them had been studying the history for many years and he told me how interesting it was for him to visit. I will be back next year and for sure I will return. Thank you for this site. Hi Gregory—it was great to read your comment about our website. I’ve always tried to avoid the “personality” arguments because I’m more interested in the battle itself. If you have any suggestions or would like to contribute in any way to the website, please contact me at bobhistory@att.net. You and I met at the battlefield back in the 90s. My son used the inscribed copy of “Custer Victorious” as a resource for his first presentation in History as a freshman in college last month. It was called, “Custer in the Civil War.” He got an A+!! Thanks, Bob Reece
