Hello from England, Some years ago I came across the grave of Pvt. Henry Holden, a survivor of the hill top fight. He is buried in Brighton cemetery in England. I often wondered how he came to be there and I became fascinated by the whole story. I was lucky enough to visit Montana in 2002 and see the battle site for myself. If anybody out there has any information about Henry Holden and how he came to win the Medal of Honor I would love to hear from them. I can be e-mailed at: brian_basterra@btinternet.com Thank you for a very interesting web site, most informative and with good photos. Brian Basterra Brighton, England

Bob, The site continues to be impressive and to me one of the higher quality sites on the the LBH. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Ken Custer

11/23/04 Ken: Your comment means a lot, especially considering you are a direct descendent of George's brother. When you were at the battlefield and we spoke on the phone I wrote down your email address, however, I've lost it. Would you email me your email address? bobhistory@comcast.net Have a great Thanksgiving. Bob Reece

Your website is very informative and interesting. I found a relative on the roster section. His name is Albert Pilcher, Co F. He is listed as not present-on detached service, date of death unknown. I wonder if anyone can tell me where he was and what happened to him.

Hi Bob, I had a great time working the trails again this year. Thanks to Bill from North Carolina for stopping to talk. He was "more than grabbed" by the battlefield experience. He'd driven by many times and that morning he felt the urge to stop and was taken by it like so many of us are. He is living life to the fullest and said, "This is not just the dress rehersal, this is the real thing." Good advice to those who want to see the place. Don't put it off, make the trip.

Another man, didn't get his name, came all the way from Virginia just to visit the battlefield. He was totally captivated.

I enjoyed talking with Patty from Chicago and her husband. Patty has read about the battle and wanted to talk theories of what happened. I enjoyed our discussion immensely.

I can identify with them all. Something drew me to the place and I've found a richness I can't explain. I encourage anyone interested to stop by the battlefield next June 25 and experience it. Talk with one of us Friends if you have questions or want to share how you feel. We know how it is. White, Indian or other, there's a place for you with the Friends. As Melani said, "It's a good day to join." Mike Semenock

7/6/04 Mike: It's always good to see you each June, Mike, as well as all the other Friends' volunteers. It's good to hear you had a great time while working so hard. I appreciate the fact that you travel as far as you do to help the Friends and the National Park Service interpret this fascinating story of the Battle of the Little Bighorn to the visitors of the Monument. I sure hope you can make it back again next year. Thanks, Bob Reece

Hi,Bob-- I work for the Friends of the San Francisco Maritime Museum Library at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. It's a totally different environment from yours, to say the least. I visited the battlefield once, about 35 years ago, but have had a lifelong interest in it. I have just seen your pictures of the reburial of the unknown, and found it very moving. I am more than ever determined to get out there once again. Melani

7/3/04 Hi Melani: The biggest difference between the two Friends' groups is that our group is landlocked!! :-)

Hopefully, you can get out to the battlefield someday over the anniversary weekend in June. Doing that you'll get to meet a lot of your fellow Friends' members. Thanks, Bob Reece

I found this site on June 25, while doing a web search just to see if anyone remembered the date. I work for a friends' group in a different national park, and was pleased to discover this one. June 25 seemed like "a good day to join," so I did. I hope to make it back to the battlefield some day, and perhaps attend one of your symposiums. Melani

6/29/04 Hi Melani: I received notice of your joining our Friends' group today. Thank you very much -- we're happy to have you on board. I'll be sending you our most recent newsletter from last April. I loved your comment above about it being a good day to join the Friends. I think any day "is a good day to join" the Friends of the Little Bighorn Battlefield. Which Friends' group do you work for? Thanks, Bob Reece

First time visitor! I was "glued" to LBH site. My great-grandfather, Martin Ramey, was in the replacement that came upon Gen. Custer and his command and found them all dead. I don't know if he was with Cpt. Benteen or Terry, but should be in their company. This story has been passed down four generations. I have tried to find his name mentioned, but not as yet. He received a govt. pension until his death. Beverly (Ramey) Broekema

6/1/04 Beverly: Thank you for visiting our website. I have good news -- we have Martin Ramey listed on our website. He was a private in CO D, 6th Infantry under the command of General Alfred Terry. So, you're right, you’re great grandfather would've been with the column that came into the valley of the LBH on June 27, 1876 to find Custer's dead and rescue Reno's men from the bluffs. In our section, "Soldiers and Warriors" you can click on "Roster Sioux War." From there click on "Dakota Column" then scroll down to the 6th Infantry. Here is the link -- http://www.friendslittlebighorn.com/Dakota%20Column.htm -- Glad we could be of some help. Thanks, Bob Reece

Marjorie Hodgkinson --

On May 9th you emailed me a question, through our comments section, about Crazy Horse and Little Horse. I tried to reply to you, however the email address you gave me is no good. Would you please email me again with the correct email address? I get tons of email, so it would help if you refresh my memory about why you write, if you do write back.

Thanks, Bob Reece

Hi Bob! Sorry to have been absent from visiting the site for ages...Hey, it's looking superb! Well done on a really nice job. I must go navigate round it and see all the new goodies! And thanks, by the way, for my renewal by way of my sister in law! I've thanked her, but I've been meaning to write you too...cheers! All the best from here Steve Sidley London

5/28/04 Hey Steve: Good to hear from you. Did you get our newsletter? If not, you should have it any day now. It was nice of your sister-in-law to renew your membership. I just got back from giving friends of mine from England a tour of the battlefield. It was their first visit and it blew them away. They saw everything including a rattlesnake beside the road. He performed for us by curling up, opening his mouth, sticking his tongue out, and making all kinds of noise. Don't forget, whenever you visit the website you can check the site map to see what's new or what's been updated  -- Talk to you soon, Bob Reece

Friends Little Bighorn.com is a FINE website. When I visited LBH in April, 2001 I spent a lot of time alone, working with my thoughts about the battle and about the significance in the entire history of The First People. Emotionally I made a connection with my Native American side in the Prayer Tree near Last Stand Hill. I will fondly return to this website and share it with friends and students. =Lama Kunga Gyaltsen, aka, Lone Hawk Watcher= Boulder, Colorado - NYC - Kathmandu, Nepal

April 28: Thanks for the kind words. So, where did you write your note from -- CO, NY or Nepal? Thanks, Bob Reece of Longmont.

April 29: Got your second guest book comment and removed it at your request. ? Thanks, Bob Reece

This site it's well made. I am a Custer's extimator and I study big horn and Custer's life after years. Now I am writing a book about the General...Your site gives me much, to the heart and to the understanding of the story. And, first of all, is one of the few sites that don't lie about Custer as a man! A little thing more? Well, I think United States would have to give back to the General his glory, perhaps, starting from giving back to the battlefield his name! Congratulations Lorenzo Gabanizza, Italy

St Patrick's Day: Good luck with your book, Lorenzo. The Friends can definitely keep you informed with what's going on at the battlefield. I suggest you join our organization. We had our first member from Italy join last month, so you could be the next. Warmest Regards, Bob Reece

5/28/04: Been meaning to leave a note here for you Lorenzo. I'm happy you joined our organization. You should have your first newsletter any day soon. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks again for joining the Friends, Bob Reece

If any of you would like to join the Friends you can do so online at -- http://www.friendslittlebighorn.com/How%20To%20Join.htm
