Rick Meyer (L) and former Superintendent LBH Gerard Baker (R)
It is always sad when someone dear to us passes away. But, it’s even harder when that person is only 49 years old. It always comes as a shock, and that is exactly the way I felt when I first heard that Rick Meyer passed away on January 30, 2004. I immediately thought of Rick’s wife, Annette and their two young boys, Matt and Levi. Rick was born December 15, 1954 and grew up in Colorado. Rick was very active in the Boy Scouts. He was the founder and first president of the Friends. He, and then Superintendent Gerard Baker envisioned a Friends group, like the other 200+ Friends organizations in the NPS, which would support the battlefield. All of us can thank Rick for who the Friends’ association is today. A memorial service for Rick was held at the Cody Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Cody, Wyoming on February 4, 2004. Rick is survived by his wife and two boys; his father, Jim Meyer; sister, Barbara Jo Meyer; brother and his wife, Alan and Tessa Meyer; and niece and nephew, Jukina and Tristen Meyer. Superintendent Darrell Cook attended the service as the representative for the NPS. Honorary pallbearers included former Superintendent of the Little Bighorn, Gerard Baker; Vice President of the Friends of the Little Bighorn Battlefield, Clifford Long Sioux; and Friends’ member Craig Fischer. Our thoughts and prayers are for Rick and his wife and children. God Bless, Bob Reece In Memoriam Home |
